Free RI CDL Double/Triple Trailers Practice Test 2025

Want to pull doubles in Rhode Island? You must hold a Class A CDL and obtain a Double/Triple (T) endorsement on your CDL. (It’s also highly advisable to be fully qualified to operate vehicles with air brakes.) There aren’t many drivers with all these qualifications and skills. Hence, such drivers tend to be in high demand and earn higher salaries than drivers limited to single-trailer vehicles.

Rhode Island prohibits double trailers in urban areas and has relatively strict bridge weight regulations elsewhere, especially on I-95 and I-195. Triple trailers are prohibited statewide.

Still, several of the state’s key economic sectors use doubles for efficient transport. Retailers use doubles to supply stores with goods from distribution centers in Connecticut and Massachusetts. In the logistics sector, companies use doubles to transport cargo arriving at the Port of Providence (Provport). Double trailers are also used for parcel and Less-Than-Truckload (LTL) shipping. (Demand for parcel shipping is high because of the state’s proximity to the logistics hubs of Boston, Hartford, and New York City.) Finally, Rhode Island’s manufacturing sector, including aerospace, defense, and electronics, operates doubles to transport parts and raw materials.

To obtain the Double/Triple endorsement on your CDL, you must pass the official Double/Triple knowledge test. Among the topics covered are safe handling, air brakes on doubles and triples, coupling and uncoupling, emergency situations, pre-trip inspections, and state and federal regulations on doubles and triples. (No special skills test is required.)

This knowledge test is based on the official Rhode Island CDL manual (Rhode Island CDL Handbook 2025), especially Chapter 7: Doubles and Triples.

We can help ensure you pass the knowledge test on your first try. This is the first of our five Rhode Island Doubles and Triples Endorsement Practice Tests. It’s based on the official CDL manual, like the official Double/Triple knowledge test. It’s up to date as of March 2025. The 20 multiple-choice questions and answers on this practice test deal with air lines, converter dollies, coupling, emergency situations, following distance, and rearward amplification.

If you get stuck on a question, ask our AI Assistant to give you a hint or discuss the question in more depth. You can also ask it your own questions about any aspect of commercial driving. If you still miss the question, the AI Assistant will immediately give you the correct answer and an explanation.

This practice test isn’t timed; take all the time you want. Disappointed with your final score? You can retake this practice test as often as you wish. Each time, the order of the questions will be randomized.

  • Perfect for first-time and renewal CDL/CLP applicants, and those adding endorsements
